SÃO PAULO, Brazil | August 25, 2026 – Visitors to The Smarter E South America 2026 in São Paulo this week are seeing CATL's full energy storage ecosystem on display. The three-day exhibition is the backdrop for the Chinese battery maker to underline its deepening commitment to the Brazilian market. From cell research and energy management software to project execution and localized after-sales support, the company is showing its entire value chain on the show floor. In a separate announcement during the event, CATL confirmed a strategic cooperation with Brazilian battery manufacturer Moura. The pair will jointly bid in Brazil's upcoming Capacity Reserve Auction for Energy Storage, a move that reinforces CATL's long-term ambitions in the country's power sector.
Storage Portfolio Built for Brazil's Grid Realities
CATL brought a wide-ranging portfolio of utility-scale storage systems to São Paulo, each designed to tackle specific challenges within Brazil's fast-changing electricity market.
Headlining the display is TENER S, the company's latest-generation storage solution. It is built around a 20-year design life with zero degradation in both capacity and power during its first year of operation. Its integrated liquid cooling system cuts auxiliary power consumption by up to 20%, helping to reduce ongoing operating costs. The system also boosts areal energy density by 30% while shrinking site footprint by 20%, lowering balance-of-system costs, a particularly relevant advantage in a market where grid instability continues to complicate renewable integration. TENER S has already been selected for marquee international projects, including a 1.5 GWh installation in Spain and the Supernode development in Australia, where it is backed by a long-term service agreement.
For high-density utility and industrial/commercial applications, CATL is featuring TENER H, which uses 575 Ah cells to pack 9,008 kWh into a single container. That configuration improves land utilization by 45%, offering a meaningful cost advantage in areas where real estate comes at a premium. The system supports flexible 2-, 4-, and 8-hour configurations: the 2-hour variant is aimed at fast-response grid stabilization, while the longer-duration options achieve up to 96.0% round-trip efficiency to maximize returns on extended discharge cycles.
Also making its Brazilian debut is TENER Sodium, a 30 MWh integrated sodium-ion system that the company launched globally just recently. CATL is positioning the solution with a 20-year design life, 95% round-trip efficiency, stable operation across a -20°C to +45°C temperature range, and IEC/UL/CE certifications. Beyond the cell technology itself, the system incorporates coordinated battery management, power conversion, and thermal management subsystems optimized specifically for sodium-ion chemistry, enabling faster site deployment and improved field reliability. Industry observers note that TENER Sodium extends CATL's site-level engineering and full-lifecycle asset management expertise into the sodium-ion domain, expertise built through years of turnkey project deliveries worldwide and reinforced by the company's newly commissioned whole-station testing facility in Xiamen, which validates grid-connected performance under real-world conditions.
Local Roots, Long-Term Commitment
"CATL's commitment to Brazil rests on three fundamental pillars: partnership, proven delivery, and localized service," said Ray See, Executive President of CATL's Americas Energy Storage Business Division, in a statement. "While we provide world-class storage solutions, our broader mission is to build self-sustaining capabilities on the ground. By forging deep local alliances, executing with proven excellence, and equipping domestic talent with the expertise to take the lead, we establish a reliable support ecosystem that stands with our partners for the long run."
That message was reinforced by the announcement of a strategic partnership with Moura, a well-established Brazilian battery manufacturer, for joint participation in Brazil's Capacity Reserve Auction for Energy Storage (LRCAP 2026 – National Storage), promoted by the Ministry of Mines and Energy. The collaboration will combine CATL's advanced storage solutions with Moura's local manufacturing and market knowledge, with support from a second strategic partner that holds the largest market share in PCS/inverters in the country. The alliance is structured to enable localized production that meets the auction's domestic content requirements, a critical condition for participation.
The Moura agreement builds on an already significant Brazilian footprint. CATL currently holds a 45% market share in the country's energy storage sector, with a project portfolio spanning utility transmission, agriculture, cold-chain logistics, and industrial facilities. Among these is the landmark Registro project, Brazil's first utility-scale battery storage system in the transmission segment, which has been supporting a critical substation serving 15 municipalities and roughly 2 million residents since it came online in December 2022.
CATL's local service network now includes five senior storage specialists and more than 140 certified engineers across South America, supporting a tiered response framework that promises one-hour remote support, two-day on-site dispatch, and five-day cross-regional expert escalation. Regional inventory is backed by four global core warehouses and over 50 front-end stocking points, with the company guaranteeing core spare parts availability for up to 20 years. CATL also offers standardized training through its South American facility in Santiago, Chile, and operates regional recycling channels for compliant transport, dismantling, and material recovery at end of life.
Global Credentials, Local Bankability
That recognition is supported by robust financial metrics. CATL's energy storage battery system revenue reached RMB 53.26 billion (approximately $7.9 billion) in the first half of 2026, representing an 87.54% year-on-year increase. According to SNE Research, the company shipped 125.0 GWh of ESS batteries during that period, capturing the world's largest market share.
Recent project milestones further illustrate the company's full-lifecycle delivery capability. In May 2026, CATL and Solarpro brought online a 602 MWh project in Burgas, Bulgaria, now Eastern Europe's largest operational battery storage facility. In Australia, the Supernode project reached Stage 2 commercial operation in August 2026, while Stage 3 secured A$469 million in debt financing; CATL is supplying systems across all stages and providing long-term O&M support. In the United States, the 380 MW / 1,416 MWh Gemini solar-plus-storage project has been operational since July 2024 and completed US$760 million in refinancing in March 2026, a clear sign of investor confidence in CATL-equipped assets, according to industry analysts following the deal.
