Gotion Rear Mounted CTB Battery for Heavy Trucks Saves 400 kg

Gotion High-Tech has brought out a new rear-integrated battery for electric heavy trucks, designed around its Cell to Bracket structural platform. The company claims the system cuts around 400 kg from the vehicle. The launch comes as electric trucks push beyond ports and mining areas into interprovincial trunk logistics and intercity freight, where loading capacity, range and charging time still decide how quickly fleets switch.

From standalone pack to chassis level integration

Most heavy truck batteries today are built as a separate “single pack” with its own frame, mounting brackets and connecting parts. That structure takes up space and adds weight. Gotion’s new CTB concept removes the redundant frame and module stages, then mounts cells directly into the vehicle through a highly integrated bracket carrier. The result is a battery system that works as part of the vehicle structure rather than as an add-on box.

Lower pack height, higher energy density

The new system stands at 943 mm in height, roughly 40 percent lower than conventional single-pack layouts. That lowers the centre of gravity and improves driving stability. The battery also reaches 250 Wh per litre at pack level and more than 160 Wh per kg, while the 400 kg weight saving can be converted directly into payload.

Capacity range matched to duty cycle

Gotion says the CTB rear-integrated product is available from 400 kWh to 700 kWh. For short shuttle operations, a 400 kWh pack can cover a full day of back and forth running. For trunk line logistics between provinces, 600 kWh or more keeps long-distance cycles practical. This range lets fleet operators choose capacity based on the actual route, not on a one size fits all default.

Safety, cold weather and maintenance considerations

The pack separates water circuits from electrical parts, with external cooling pipes instead of internal coolant channels. That lowers the risk of coolant leakage reaching the cells and makes later servicing simpler. For winter operation, the battery uses liquid cooling and heating, with an optional PTC ceramic heater for rapid temperature rises in severe cold. Gotion also says the battery completed a 6000 km durability test on real roads.

What this means for buyers and pack integrators

The heavy truck battery market is shifting from raw capacity competition to system level performance. From January to August 2026, Gotion ranked among the top five heavy truck battery suppliers with installations up 51.5 percent year on year. Lightweight design, charging behaviour, cold tolerance and lifecycle reliability now matter more than amp hour numbers alone.
For fleets or pack integrators looking at any new battery platform, the same practical checks apply. Cells need to pass a battery voltage internal resistance test before leaving the factory, and the final product often requires custom battery pack design when the vehicle layout is not a standard platform. Those details decide whether a pilot project succeeds or gets delayed.
