A standout feature of the newly revealed fifth-generation BMW X5 is the ultra-high-capacity battery in the pure electric version. The new all-electric iX5 60 xDrive features large-capacity batteries with specifications tailored to specific regions—offering a usable capacity of 144 kWh for the North American market and 141 kWh for the European market—making it the highest-capacity high-voltage battery ever used in a mass-produced BMW vehicle. Departing from previous designs, this battery utilizes new cylindrical cells derived from BMW’s "Neue Klasse" platform and features a standard 800V high-voltage electrical architecture, delivering comprehensive improvements in fast-charging efficiency, energy density, and thermal management capabilities.
