Malmö’s Parkside Mobility Hub Redefines Urban Parking As A High-Performance Decentralized Clean Ener

Tripartite collaboration between Sungrow, Parkering Malmö, and Truxco Energy delivers an integrated solar, storage, and EV charging ecosystem, setting a replicable benchmark for sustainable urban infrastructure

Cities across the globe are racing to reimagine underutilized urban spaces as cornerstones of the energy transition, and a new flagship development in Malmö’s Hyllie district is leading the charge. What was once a conventional municipal parking structure has been fully reborn as the Parkside Mobility Hub: a self-sustaining, grid-supportive clean energy node that unites on-site solar generation, smart battery energy storage, and scalable EV charging infrastructure, all within a thoughtfully designed public space. The project is the result of a strategic partnership between Sungrow, a global leader in inverter and energy storage solutions, Parkering Malmö, Malmö’s municipal parking operator, and Truxco Energy, a Nordic clean energy integration specialist.

A Community-Centric Sustainability Landmark Aligned With Ambitious Climate Targets

Nestled in Hyllie, a Malmö neighborhood already renowned for its industry-leading sustainability commitments, the Parkside Mobility Hub is engineered to be a scalable template for merging clean energy access with smart urban mobility. The facility houses 430 parking stalls, with more than 200 pre-configured for EV charging to accommodate the rapid growth of electric transport in Sweden. But the project goes far beyond traditional parking functionality: it adds meaningful public amenities, including a panoramic rooftop access staircase and an open-air fitness area, delivering tangible community value that elevates it above standard urban parking infrastructure.
Every element of the hub’s construction adheres to rigorous climate-optimized standards. This includes building-integrated photovoltaic glass in the façade, on-site renewable energy generation, and the use of low-carbon building materials: sustainably sourced timber, recycled steel, and low-carbon concrete. The development is purpose-built to advance both Malmö’s 2030 climate action roadmap and the strict sustainability criteria of Local Food Malmö 2030 (LFM30), establishing a new baseline for climate-positive urban development across the Nordics.
“We view our parking facilities as critical assets in Malmö’s broader green transition, evolving them into local energy nodes that strengthen the grid and expand access to renewable power,” said Almir Hodzic, CEO of Parkering Malmö. “Affordability and reliability of energy are pressing challenges across the region, and on-site energy storage is an indispensable tool to future-proof our assets and serve the community long-term.”

AI-Powered Energy Infrastructure: Industry-Leading Storage And Conversion Technology At The Core

The backbone of the hub’s energy ecosystem is built on best-in-class storage and power conversion technology from Sungrow, paired with AI-driven energy orchestration from Truxco Energy. At the heart of the installation are four units of Sungrow’s PowerStack, a cutting-edge liquid-cooled energy storage system (ESS) purpose-built for commercial and industrial (C&I) use cases. With a total usable storage capacity of 916 kWh, the PowerStack system maximizes on-site solar self-consumption, stores excess renewable generation during peak sunlight hours, and delivers real-time grid support during periods of high demand or low solar output.
Complementing the storage solution are Sungrow’s SG33CX multi-MPPT string inverters, which deliver a peak conversion efficiency of 98.7% while offering advanced smart management functionality and full compatibility with high-performance bifacial PV modules. Together, the technology stack converts the multi-story parking facility into a fully functional decentralized power plant, boosting local grid resilience and reducing strain on central grid infrastructure.
“Our core mission is to deliver universal access to clean energy, whether that’s through utility-scale solar farms on city outskirts or space-constrained urban settings where every square meter delivers maximum value,” said Tony Granholm, Partner Success Manager for the Nordics at Sungrow. “By combining our PowerStack ESS with Truxco Energy’s AI-driven energy management platform, we’re able to efficiently capture and store solar energy on bright days, while ensuring consistent, reliable power access and grid resilience even during overcast, wet weather.”
The entire energy ecosystem is managed and optimized by Truxco Energy’s proprietary AI-powered energy management platform. This software enables predictive operational planning, early identification of potential technical anomalies, and dynamic balancing between on-site generation, energy storage, and EV charging load. The result is a highly reliable, fire-safe, and aesthetically cohesive energy solution that aligns seamlessly with the project’s architectural vision.
“This mobility hub is a perfect example of how we can weave together design excellence, cutting-edge technology, and uncompromising sustainability into a single, cohesive solution,” said Modi Nezami, Project Manager at Truxco Energy, who led the technical integration for the development. “Pairing Sungrow’s intelligent storage and inverter technology with our AI management platform allows us to proactively identify and address potential issues before they impact operations, upholding the highest standards for safety and performance. The end result is a fire-safe, smart, and visually integrated energy solution that delivers on every promise of the project.”

A Replicable Paradigm For Decarbonizing Urban Spaces And Accelerating The Energy Transition

The Parkside Mobility Hub introduces a transformative new model for urban infrastructure: repositioning parking structures from passive, underutilized concrete assets into active, revenue-generating clean energy resources. By integrating on-site solar generation, smart energy storage, and high-density EV charging, the project offers a clear roadmap for municipalities to accelerate progress toward their decarbonization targets, while simultaneously reducing stress on overburdened central grid networks. The collaboration also highlights the critical role of behind-the-meter energy storage in scaling electrified transport, without the need for costly, time-consuming grid-wide upgrades.
The Nordic region remains a core strategic market for Sungrow, which has established dedicated local offices in Stockholm and Copenhagen, with specialized teams tailored to address the region’s unique climate conditions and energy transition priorities. With a comprehensive portfolio spanning utility-scale solar, residential energy solutions, and C&I energy storage systems, Sungrow has solidified its position as a trusted technology partner for renewable energy projects across Sweden, Norway, Denmark, and Finland.
